In the Beginning...

...there was an empty, unfinished basement. Now there's a clean, L-shaped room, finished, properly lit and atmospherically controlled. As expected, I'm still learning about the technical details but that's the point of the whole exercise.

The theme is a circa 1920 East Coast Canadian ocean seaport using Saint John, New Brunswick as a guide.

Working in HO to build an operationally reliable representation of a historically based region during the transition from the InterColonial Railway then Canadian Government Railways to Canadian National Railway.

Fig. 1. Open benchwork to facilitate a variety of terrain and NO DUCK UNDERS! I'm too old for that nonsense. Broad spectrum, 6,000 Kelvin lighting planned to avoid shadows and simulate natural light.

Fig. 2. Building a yard to (hopefully) avoid impossible moves with all track easily accessible.

Fig. 3. Peco Code 83 track laid (Paris Junction), wired for DCC (Credit Valley), backdrop started using paint matched to actual sky colour, point to loop operation. Once de-bugged ready to start dramatic East Coast scenery and cityscape that will dwarf the rolling stock, just like in real life.
